Pre-K

Pre-K Education at Regina Angelorum Academy is rooted in the Catholic Classical Curriculum intertwined with both Montessori and Charlotte Mason educational practices. The Pre-K vision statement is to “Be kind and respectful in work and play; Do your best with joy today.”

The Pre-K classroom brings the faith into its curriculum through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori based introduction to the Catholic faith. The Pre-K day begins a the prayer table featuring a liturgically aligned colored tablecloth which allows us to call to mind the liturgical season of the church. We offer ongoing prayer activities based on the liturgical season.

The Pre-K classroom rules and habits are:

• Respect the dignity of the students and the adults in our room through listening with eyes on the speaker and bodies still
• Hands in our own space
• Listening the first time to teachers
• Treating classroom materials appropriately
• Cleaning work and returning to proper place
• Learning how to take a break to refocus when necessary and come back to the group when ready to work/play respectfully

In Pre-K, we focus on our work and classroom jobs without complaint and with a spirit of joy and contribution to the larger good of the classroom community.

Our Catholic Faith

We integrate our Catholic faith into each day with daily prayer through saying Grace before snack with hands in prayer posture, singing a hymn and we often add gestures so that the children can understand what the hymn means and learn through imitation. On Wednesdays we share the Word of God and a lesson about an aspect of Catholic doctrine. The children do contemplative work that is a prayer using Catechesis of the Good Shepherd materials that represent Bible narratives and encourage quiet and contemplative participation.

Throughout the year, Corporal Works of Mercy, Hymns, learning about the Triduum, Advent and Infancy narratives, and the Sacramental Life of the Church are introduced and featured throughout the classroom.
