Catholic girl students developThere is an alternative to homeschooling.  Perhaps with good reason, homeschooling is on the rise. A recent Washington Post article called it America’s “fastest growing educational trend.”

Immediately following the pandemic lockdown, homeschooling peaked.  The number of homeschooled students dropped slightly in 2022-2023, but the overall number of homeschooled students is still higher than pre-pandemic enrollment figures.

Homeschooling was once a niche option for a small group of parents who were interested in educational alternatives.  The COVID-19 pandemic caused many parents to re-thinking traditional education, especially in public schools.

According to the Reason Foundation, parents have turned to homeschooling for several key reasons including their questions over the school environment, fears about safety, concerns about social issues interfering with instruction and the desire to raise their children with a faith-filled education.

While homeschooling can be a valuable educational option for some families, Regina Angelorum Academy, like other Classical Catholic schools, offers advantages which appeal to parents seeking an alternative to public education, but who are still interested in a formal school setting.

If you are a parent researching homeschooling options, consider some potential advantages Regina Angelorum Academy offers.

What works well for one family may not be the best fit for another. Ultimately, the decision between Regina Angelorum Academy and homeschooling should be based on what aligns best with the child’s educational goals and the resources available to the family.

The Foundation: Truth, Beauty, and Goodness (TBG)

The themes of truth, beauty, and goodness, known as TBG at Regina Angelorum Academy (RAA), are the foundation of a Classical Liberal Arts Education. Students encounter truth, beauty, and goodness through various disciplines including nature studies, poetry recitation, analysis or construction of an argument, and the application of math. Each of these disciplines is woven into the fabric of the RAA school community.

Each trimester, students study the work of one composer and one artist. A new piece of art from the selected artist or composition from the selected composer is introduced to students every two weeks. This year, during first semester, students have been studying the art of Mary Cassatt and the music of Clara and Robert Schumann.

Truth, Beauty, and Goodness: How RAA Students Study Art

Truth beauty goodness. Little girl in a blue armchair. Mary Cassatt

Little Girl in a Blue Armchair | Mary Cassatt, 1878

When studying art, a copy of the artwork is provided to students and placed upside down on their desks. Students are guided to turn it over, study it for 2-3 minutes, and then turn it face down again.

Next, students take turns narrating what they remember from the artwork. In addition to the narration, the students in upper grades will comment on the artist’s mood, intent, and the symbolism discovered in the artwork. After two weeks, students refer to the artwork and try to create a copy of the master work. Please see a few examples in the Student Gallery at the end of this post.

Why Narration Matters in Classical Education

Regina Angelorum Academy students spend time regularly practicing the skill of narration to assimilate knowledge. Narration is a classical pedagogical method of telling or writing back what is read, heard, observed, or experienced. It is through the children’s narrations that the ideas and ideals, set forth like a banquet before the children, are digested. We believe the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ to be ever-present as the unique and sacred personality of each child is nourished by this feast.

Truth, Beauty, and Goodness: How RAA Students Study Music

At Regina Angelorum Academy, we believe that music education is fundamental to developing the whole person. Music is a unique language of human expression and points us through beauty and emotion, to reason, and to God Himself.

RAA’s focus on music aligns with the classical Quadrivium which includes music as one of the four core subjects. In the ancient world (along with arithmetic, astronomy, and geometry), music was a means to understanding how the world is ordered and how that order reflects the beauty and rational mind of the Creator. Students are introduced to music as a pathway, enabling them to recognize beauty, and what is true and good.

As children grow into elementary and middle school, these fundamentals are introduced early and are integrated into the classical curriculum based on the era and world events students are studying. Composers and music from the Middle Ages through the Baroque and Classical periods are examples of sacred and secular selections studied to bring the classical curriculum to fruition.

First Trimester Artist: Mary Cassatt, American Painter (1844-1926)

The Child’s Bath, 1893

Mary Cassatt, born in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA was an Impressionist painter who visited France as a child. She was tutored in art during her childhood and later attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. After a short time, she departed from the academic approach to art education. She moved to Europe to learn through time with artists including Jean-Leon Gerome and Thomas Couture. Her works were exhibited in the Paris Salon five times.

In 1874, she moved to Paris permanently. Cassatt became friends with Edward Degas, who admired her art, and his art deeply influenced hers. A Japanese exhibition later influenced her, and her artwork and style shifted. While she was prolific at drawing, she did not hesitate to explore using pastels.

Cassatt spent the majority of her life with a group of artists in and around Paris. She painted contemporary women of the era with a special interest in painting women as caretakers of their children.

First Trimester Musicians: Clara (Wieck) Schumann (1819-1896) and Robert Schumann (1810-1856)

Truth, beauty, goodness. Clara and Robert Schumann

Clara and Robert Schumann | Source: classicfm.com

Clara Wieck Schumann was born in 1819 in Leipzig, Germany. A piano prodigy by age five, the Austrian Court elected Clara Schumann to the prestigious Society of the Friends of Music in 1838.

Robert Schumann, born in 1810, began studying piano at age six. He was influenced by Austrian Composer Franz Schubert and German poet Jean Paul Richter.

While Robert enjoyed studying music, he attended law school in 1828, but preferred music and spent more time composing. Robert Schumann studied music under Friedrich Wieck, whose 9-year-old daughter, Clara, excelled as a pianist. He composed prolific pieces and symphonic studies for seven years studying under Wieck. During this time, he also fell in love with Wieck’s daughter Clara. When Schuman n proposed marriage, Clara’s father forbade it. The separation was difficult and during this time, Schumann composed his famous Fantasy in C Major and other significant works.

Eventually, despite Wieck’s disapproval and second denial of Schumann’s proposal, Robert and Clara married in 1840. While most of the works he is known for were composed in 1840, Clara significantly influenced his future musical compositions which grew to include symphonies, concertos, scherzos, and his most challenging work, a “secular oratorio,” Das Paradies und die Peri (Paradise and the Peri). The Schumanns raised a family with eight children, composed, and regularly toured and performed.

Truth, Beauty, and Goodness At Home

Each semester introduces a new artist and new composer. RAA families are encouraged to discuss the artwork and listen to the trimester composer together. Bringing prints of the artwork home for observation, narration, and discussion bring the artwork to life. Listening to the music in the car or while preparing dinner offers a more comprehensive experience for students to converse with their families about the composition.

Asking the who, what, where, when, and why questions allow everyone to grow in appreciation of how art and music, like reading the Classics, lead us to truth, beauty, and goodness and toward the love of God.

first friday First Friday has a special meaning at Regina Angelorum Academy.  For Catholics, certain practices carry a profound significance that resonates across generations. The First Friday Devotion is one such practice.  For the students, faculty and families at Regina Angelorum Academy, First Friday is ingrained into the school’s curriculum and culture.

Exploring the First Friday Devotion

The First Friday Devotion is rooted in the veneration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus first made popular by Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century.  Christ’s Sacred Heart is a reminder of His boundless love, compassion, and willingness to embrace humanity’s sufferings. Traditionally observed on the first Friday of each month, this devotion to the Sacred Heart invites believers to engage in acts of adoration, reparation, and communion. It is through this practice that the tradition of First Friday Mass emerged.

The First Friday Experience at Regina Angelorum Academy

At Regina Angelorum Academy, the First Friday Devotion takes on a special significance. Students and teachers celebrate First Friday Mass together.  The collective school community, including parents, grandparents, and friends, are invited to join us.  Sharing this devotion together becomes a tangible expression of our shared faith.

The First Friday Mass is a time of reflection, offering students and the entire Regina Angelorum Academy community the opportunity to refocus our hearts on the love and mercy symbolized by the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Connecting with Tradition

The tradition of the First Friday Devotion is reinforced at Regina Angelorum Academy.  By celebrating Mass together on First Friday, the entire Regina Angelorum community is united with the Catholic Church in sharing this ancient custom.  The devotion’s significance lies in its historical roots and its ability to foster spiritual growth, community, and a deeper connection with Christ.

The First Friday Devotion is a poignant reminder of the depth of Catholic spirituality and the enduring power of tradition. At Regina Angelorum Academy, this practice takes on a vibrant life, offering students a chance to nurture their faith while pursuing academic excellence. As students and faculty come together on First Fridays to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus by celebrating Mass, we are further united as a community of faith committed to authentically Catholic education.

Our neighbors in Ardmore have become accustomed to seeing Regina Angelorum students and families walk through the community during our Annual Walkathon. When people see us passing, they also notice that we’re doing more than just walking; our walking is a form of prayer, coming together as a community, and enjoying God’s creation.

 The Regina Angelorum Academy Walkathon

The Regina Angelorum Academy Annual Walkathon unites the students, faculty, and families. This important fundraiser supports the Regina Angelorum Scholarship Fund. We have an ambitious goal of raising $35,000 this year.

RAA is an independent, private Catholic grade school. As a result, we do not receive subsidies from local parishes or any financial support from the Archdiocese.

The Regina Angelorum Scholarship Fund is an important resource for families who desire an authentically Catholic education for their children   This year’s Walkathon is on October 20, 2023.

October and the Rosary

October is the ideal month for our Walkathon. It’s a beautiful time to take in the fall foliage.walking and praying the regina angelorum walkathon

October is also dedicated to the Rosary. Regina Angelorum Academy is entrusted to the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary and we honor Mary in a special way by praying the Rosary as a school.

October is dedicated to the Rosary because of the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary is held on October 7th. This feast commemorates the Battle of Lepanto.

The Battle of Lepanto was a significant naval conflict between the Christian Holy League, a coalition of European Catholic maritime states, and the Ottoman Empire. In 1569, the Vatican “urged the Rosary for universal use.” Pope Pius V requested Christians to pray the Rosary in 1571. He asked for their collective prayers to seek the assistance of the Blessed Mother during the Battle of Lepanto.

Muslim military forces were expanding the caliphate. They were on the precipice of dominating the Mediterranean Sea and were threatening to take over Europe.

The Christian Holy League was set to engage the Turkish navy at the Bay of Lepanto. The Christian forces were vastly outnumbered by a superior and highly skilled Turkish armada.

Facing defeat, the Pope called on Christians to pray the Rosary and offer this intention for the Christian naval forces. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and with the aid of prayer, they achieved a decisive victory.

Pope Pius V attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, specifically through the praying of the Rosary, and as a result, he instituted the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary to honor this event.

Catholics dedicate October to the Rosary, praying and meditating on Jesus’ life through the intercession of the Virgin Mary. Catholics are encouraged to reflect on the mysteries of the Rosary. These mysteries are significant events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. The purpose is to deepen their commitment to this form of prayer.

For Catholics, the Rosary is a particularly important sacramental and devotion. At Regina Angelorum Academy, a private, Catholic grade school for students from Pre-K through 8th grade, it is also important for our students’ formation.

Supporting the Walkathon

Please consider supporting the Regina Angelorum Academy Walkathon. Your donation will help us achieve our ambitious goal of raising $35,000 for the Regina Angelorum Scholarship Fund. You can learn more by clicking here.

Prayer at Regina Angelorum Academy

Regina Angelorum Academy is a private, independent Catholic grade school. As a school community, we are faithful to the teachings of the Catholic church. We believe that our primary responsibility is to point children towards Heaven.  This is a sacred trust we have received from the parents of our students, and we make every effort to honor this commitment. Daily prayer is a part of school life at Regina Angelorum Academy and is the anchor of a student’s day.

Through daily prayer, we can help students build a lifelong habit of prayer and devotion that nurtures their relationship with God and allows them space to discern and seek God’s will for their lives. Regular prayer strengthens our faith, and by offering this opportunity to pray together each day, students develop the intentional habit of looking to God for guidance, expressing gratitude, and experiencing peace. Also, Morning Prayer at Regina Angelorum Academy offers the opportunity to pray for others and their intentions as a school community.

Morning Prayer

At Regina Angelorum Academy, we gather as a community at Morning Forum to pray together. The prayers and hymns change during the year to reflect the liturgical calendar.  During Ordinary Time, our hymns and prayers are generally the same, however there are changes at times to reflect the Month of the Holy Rosary and the month of the Holy Souls.   In  Advent, the opening hymn changes to  O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, and the Canticle of Zachariah is recited instead of Psalm 23.  During Lent, we sing the Sabat Mater and read a variety of Psalms.

Morning Prayer during Forum at Regina Angelorum Academy

Opening Hymn: Ave, Regina Caelorum

Ave Regina caelorum,
Ave Domina Angelorum,
Salve radix, salve porta,
Ex qua mundo lux est orta.
Gaude, Virgo gloriosa,
Super omnes speciosa,
Vale, O valde decora!
Et pro nobis Christum exora.

Reciting Psalm 23 | On Wednesdays, the Sunday Gospel is read in place of Psalm 23.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want;
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of death,
I fear no evil; for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this
day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world, in reparation for my sins,
for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in
particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen

The Pater Noster

Pater noster, qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur Nomen tuum, adveniat regnum tuum,
fiat voluntas tua sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum contidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris
et ne nos inducas in tentationem,
sed libera nos a malo. Amen

Prayer to St. Michael

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our
protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou O
Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into
hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl throughout the
world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Pledge of Allegiance

Saint of the Day

Precepts of St. John Bosco

St. John Bosco, the patron saint of youth, was known for educating the poor and founding the Salesian order. He believed that education was more than schooling, but a path to holiness. As a priest, he provided young boys with an education, religious instruction, and recreation. Regina Angelorum Academy’s approach is aligned with these three areas along with the pursuit of truth through a  classical education. St. John Bosco’s precepts help our teachers and students to stay rooted. While simple, the following phrases we recite daily, offer strength in their holistic approach, and grounding in reason, faith, and kindness.

“Never offend anyone. Above all, be willing to serve others. Be more demanding of yourself than of others.” – St. John Bosco’s Precept of Kindness

The Precepts of St. John Bosco

I will be cheerful.
I will do my duties well.
I will stay close to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
I will honor and love Mary as my Mother and Helper.
I choose to be kind.
I want to serve rather than be served.

Noon Prayer

During lunch, students pray the Angelus and Grace Before Meals. The prayer is based on the Annunciation when the Angel Gabriel visited the Virgin Mary to announce that she would conceive and bear the Son of God.

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it done unto me according to thy word.

Hail Mary…

And the Word was made flesh.
And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary…

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Closing Prayer

Before dismissal, we pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet as a school. This prayer is based on revelations received by St. Faustina and emphasizes God’s mercy and forgiveness.

The Divine Mercy

Opening Prayer:

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
(Repeat 10 times.)

Closing Prayer:

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Students at Regina Angelorum Academy also nurture their prayer life at school by praying the Rosary. They also attend Mass twice monthly as a school, participate in Eucharistic Adoration, and pray the Lectio Divina.  Together, students and teachers look to the Saints to imitate their life of prayer and sacrifice as a means of growing closer to Christ.

With Fall in the air, joy and enthusiasm have returned to the halls of Regina Angelorum Academy.  Students, faculty, and families have renewed excitement about the new school year. For September, we embrace the Solemnity of our Lady of Sorrows on September 15th.

Like Catholics around the world, at Regina Angelorum Academy, we have entrusted ourselves to the Blessed Mother’s patronage.  Through this devotion, we are called to reflect on the profound suffering endured by the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as the incredible joy she experienced, as the mother of Jesus.  This month, we have a unique opportunity for contemplation, empathy, and connection to the heart of Mary’s experiences.

The History of the Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows

The earliest Christians were devoted to Our Lady of Sorrows.  During the Middle Ages, this devotion gained prominence.  In the 13th Century, the Order of Servites was established. This Catholic religious order is dedicated to meditating on Mary’s seven sorrows.

In the 18th century, the Catholic Church formally recognized the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.  Pope Pius VII dedicated September 15th for this solemnity.  The feast commemorates seven significant moments in Mary’s life that caused profound sorrow.  These include:

  • The prophecy of Simeon
  • The flight to Egypt
  • The loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple
  • Meeting Jesus on the way to Calvary
  • The crucifixion and death of Jesus
  • The taking down of His body
  • Jesus’ burial

It is important to note that this devotion is not meant to focus solely on Mary’s sufferings. We remember her unwavering “yes” to God’s calling in her life.  Through the devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows, we are inspired by Mary’s strength and compassion.

The Significance of September

September is the appropriate time for the Feast of the Our Lady of Sorrows.  The changing seasons reflect transitions in life and remind us of the changing times in our lives.  Throughout our lives, we experience ups and downs…joys and sorrows.  The Blessed Virgin experienced unparalleled joys and intense sorrow. She is our inspiration and our strength.

Through our devotion to Our Lady of Sorrow, we also recall Mary’s role as our spiritual mother. She understands us.  She walks with us in moments of suffering. She intercedes for us to her Son and the Father.  Amid our pain, we can find strength in Mary.  By dedicating this month to Our Lady of Sorrows, we open our hearts to the profound lessons she offers, inviting her maternal guidance into our lives and finding solace in her unwavering presence.

A Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows

Our Lady of Sorrows: Virgin Mary lamenting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, her son. Feast Day September 15th. Patronage: Slovakia Hungary Poland Capas, Tarlac Malta Mississippi Ronda, Cebu Tanauan, Batangas Bustos, Bulacan Dolores, Quezon Pakil, Laguna

Dear Mother Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows,

In this month dedicated to your compassion and strength, we turn to you with hearts full of reverence and trust. You, who walked the path of sorrow beside your beloved Son, understand the depths of human suffering. Your unwavering faith, your enduring love, and your willingness to stand at the foot of the cross inspire us to face our own trials with courage and grace.

Mary, tender mother, teach us to embrace our sorrows as a means of drawing closer to your Son. As we reflect on the seven sorrows you experienced, may we find comfort in your presence and consolation in your intercession. Help us remember that through every tear and ache, you stand beside us, guiding us toward the light of your Son’s love.

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us, that we may find strength in our weaknesses, hope in our despair, and the peace that only Christ can provide. Amen.

Ann Coffey, Principal, Regina Angelorum AcademyDear Families,

We hope that you have enjoyed a restful and fun summer.  We are enthusiastic about welcoming 183 students from 89 families for the 2023-2024 school year!

We have been making numerous preparations and improvements to the school over the summer and we look forward to opening our doors on September 6th.Classrooms have been painted and renovated, our kitchen and basement restroom received much-needed upgrades, and the school has been deeply cleaned.

As Regina Angelorum Academy begins its 18th year, it is important to pause and express gratitude for our dedicated faculty. Our teachers have spent many weeks preparing for the new school year. They’ve worked tirelessly on new curriculum modules, developing lessons, and creating interactive and engaging activities to guide students on a journey of critical thinking, discovery, and growth.  The summer culminated in an off-site faculty retreat where teachers learned more about interior prayer and came together for curriculum meetings around History, Science, Religion and Latin.

As the school year begins at Regina Angelorum Academy, we are reminded of the important foundation of timeless values and traditions that form the foundation of classical Catholic education. Our dedication to moral integrity, academic excellence, and spiritual development is unwavering.

St. John Bosco  comes to mind as we begin a new academic year. St. John Bosco, the patron saint of youth, served the poorest children in Italy.  He developed a preventative method of education which relied on prevention of behavioral problems instead of the repressive methods of his time. These preventative methods were centered on reason, religion and loving care of the students.  As Catholic school educators, we believe in this approach. Together, we will strive to foster an environment where each student can flourish academically, spiritually, and socially.

At Regina Angelorum Academy, we believe that parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. The heart of successfully educating children lies in the strength of a true partnership and frequent collaboration between families and the school. Parents and guardians provide invaluable support and involvement that influences the growth of our students.  Our Parents Guild provides a partnership between parents and the school administration. We look forward to kicking off the year with our first meeting on September 27.

As we begin a new school year with our Catholic faith as our guide, we will embrace the challenges and triumphs to come. I am confident that with God’s continued blessings and grace, and our collective commitment to our students’ education, we will have another extraordinary school year.

Welcome back to Regina Angelorum Academy!

God Bless,

In today’s modern education landscape, where technological advancements and evolving teaching methodologies dominate the classroom, a classical education offers a timeless and profound approach to learning. According to an article in First Things, which was then reported in Fox News, “over 200 classical schools have opened in the US over the past two years.”

While the growth of classical education in recent years has captured the hearts and minds of parents seeking a holistic, well-rounded education for their children, sixteen years ago, the founding parents and teachers of Regina Angelorum already knew that this approach to education would provide the best school and education for their children.  Understanding the growth of classical education, especially among Catholic schools, sheds light on why parents, today more than ever, should consider Regina Angelorum Academy.

The Revival of Classical Education

Regina Angelorum AcademyClassical education is rooted in time-honored traditions and is based on the wisdom of ancient civilizations.  A classical education emphasizes the cultivation of wisdom, virtue, and critical thinking. Grounded in the trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) and the quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy), classical education provides students with a solid foundation for intellectual and moral growth.  Learn more about our curriculum here.

The growing dissatisfaction with the limitations of modern education, such as an emphasis standardized testing and an over-reliance on technology, has led many parents to seek alternatives that nurture a deep love for learning, critical thinking skills, and a profound understanding of human culture. As a result, classical education has experienced a remarkable resurgence.

Regina Angelorum Academy: Nurturing Young Minds

Regina Angelorum Academy is a private, Catholic school in Ardmore, PA.  It serves as a beacon of classical education, offering a transformative and enriching educational experience for students.

Moreover, RAA is an authentically Catholic school.  Teachers pledge an oath of fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and.is firmly grounded in the teachings of the Catholic faith. These truths are livedinside the classroom and throughout school life.

Regina Angelorum Academy instills virtues such as integrity, responsibility, and respect, fostering character formation alongside academic excellence. Students are encouraged to explore their unique talents and passions, allowing for well-rounded personal growth.

Timeless Curriculum

At Regina Angelorum Academy, the curriculum embraces the rich heritage of Western civilization. Through the study of classical languages, literature, history, and philosophy, students engage with the ideas and wisdom of great thinkers throughout history. This breadth of knowledge equips them with a deep understanding of their cultural roots and enables them to appreciate the achievements and challenges of humanity.

Rigorous Intellectual Training

The emphasis on the trivium ensures that students develop essential skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, and logical reasoning. By engaging with classical texts and engaging in lively discussions, students sharpen their analytical abilities, fostering a lifelong love for learning.

Individualized Attention

Regina Angelorum Academy values small class sizes, allowing for personalized instruction and nurturing relationships between teachers and students. This approach enables teachers to understand each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles, providing tailored support and guidance.

Ann Coffey, Principal, Regina Angelorum AcademyFrom our principal, Ann Coffey

Summer break offers time to relax, have fun, travel and much more.  It is an opportunity to explore, learn, and make cherished memories with family and friends.  Our faith is central to our lives, not only September through June, but all year long.  The summer months provide a special and unique time to consider the value of our Catholic faith and the importance of Catholic education.

Some of the greatest memories of summer are made in the warm sun, swimming in cool pools, and traveling to see friends and new places. While enjoying summer, here are some summer “assignments” to carry with you on your summer journey:

  1. Embrace Gratitude
God is good!  Thank Him each day for His many blessings.  Thank him for the love of your family, the joy of friendship, and the beauty of the season.
  2. Nurture Your Spirituality
The summer is a perfect time to reflect on the great gift of God’s creation and the beauty in the world around us.  Experience the sacraments by going to Mass each week and going to Confession this summer.  Pray the Rosary while walking on the beach, on a bike ride, or hiking along a trail.
  3. Continue to Learn
Summer is not a time to pause the  quest for knowledge. Dive into the captivating world of books, explore new hobbies, or engage in activities that ignite curiosity. Learning is a continuous and lifelong journey.
  4. Build Lasting Friendships: God’s love for us shines through our ability to connect with others and friendships, both old and new, make summer so special:
Summer friends can be some of the best friends!  Take time to make new friends at camp, down the shore, in summer sports leagues, and in your neighborhood.  During the summer, build relationships and new memories to last a lifetime.

Each of our Regina Angelorum Academy students offer unique and special gifts with great potential to impact the world positively. Our Catholic education, whether it is during the school year or through a summer adventure, instills the values of love, respect, and integrity. Carry these virtues with you wherever you go. Until fall, when we welcome you back to school, gaze on the stars that grace our summer nights, and may God’s love always guide and protect you.

Students develop during Catholic Schools WeekCatholic Schools Week is January 29 – February 4. This special week allows RAA and other Catholic schools nationwide to celebrate our commitment to faith, excellence, and service. Our faith in Jesus is the foundation for all that we do at RAA. Our faculty helps students develop excellent habits and flourish in virtue by imitating Christ. Our commitment to service allows students to remember that what we do for the least of our brothers and sisters, we do for Christ.

Children hunger for real traditions. In that spirit, here are the traditions that we hold dear during Catholic Schools Week at RAA.

Printable Schedule: Catholic Schools Week

SUNDAY: Catholic Schools Week Begins | Attend Mass as a Family

“The Eucharist is ‘the source and summit’ of the Christian life.” (CCC 1324)

As the Eucharist is the summit of our lives, the Mass is the heart of Catholic schools. Help your children see the Beauty of the Liturgy, sacred music, prayer, and reverence of the Eucharist.

MONDAY: Prayer Day | Thank St. Colman Parishioners | Pray The Rosary as a School

“We give thanks to God always for all of you…remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 1:2)

The greatest service we can offer is bringing the light of Christ to all we meet. We are especially grateful for the St. Colman’s Parish community for hosting our school.

TUESDAY: Service Day | Making Necessity Packs for the Homeless in Kensington

‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40)

For this year’s service project, students will create necessity care packs for distribution by Pennsylvanians for Human Life during their February Rosary Walk in Kensington in partnership with the Sisters of Life. Classes will pray a decade of the rosary for the recipients of these care packs.

WEDNESDAY: Student Appreciation Day | Students Wear Gym Uniform with Crazy Hats, Ties, and Socks

“After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.” (Luke 2:46-47)

Encouraging students to find freedom through intellectual and moral virtue is foundational to a child’s education at RAA. We also believe it is important to recognize and celebrate our students. Today students will have house games and a soft pretzel snack!

THURSDAY: Teacher Appreciation Day | Teacher Luncheon

“Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:11)

Teachers and mentors share in the formative and transformative work of The Great Teacher. The constant inspiration of Christ’s example guides our approach to our curriculum, our duties, and our relationships with our students.

FRIDAY: Parent Appreciation Day | First Friday Mass | Coffee With Coffey Parent Breakfast

“The family is the community in which, from childhood, one can learn moral values, begin to honor God, and make good use of freedom. Family life is an initiation into life in society.” (CCC 2207)

Parents are the primary educators of their children (CCC 2223). RAA supports this God-given role by providing a rich, Catholic liberal arts curriculum and support for parents to engage in their student’s formation. Parents are invited to join us at Coffee with Coffey for coffee and pastries after Mass.
